SHAPES IN NATURE | The Paintings of Thane Gorek
— December 5th – December 30th —
![]()
Trees and rocks are an indelible fixture of the western landscape. Their
beauty can be dramatic or can inspire one to reflect on the quiet solitude
of open spaces. Thane Gorek creates paintings of trees and rocks not
only because they are such an iconic element of the American west, but
because they are ultimately abstractions. In the gnarled tangles of
tree branches and the biomorphic swelling of rock formations, Gorek freely
explores the formal concerns of line, texture, color, and composition.
Gorek says, "I am not so interested in painting landscapes as I am in capturing the
unique qualities of natural forms. Shapes in nature are not uniformly geometric,
but are broken, wrinkled, and uneven; composed of self-similar patterns
expressed in ever-diminishing repetition. I am fascinated by this aesthetic
and my painting is about revealing the complex beauty of natural structures."

EMERGING ARTIST’S SHOW
— Dates to be announced —
Although the artists displaying in our Emerging Artist’s Show are in
just in the beginning of their artistic careers, you will be impressed
by the maturity evidenced in their work. This show will include
representational paintings and drawings in various media. Now is the time
to begin collecting the work of these artists, before their discovery
by national collectors makes their work that much more difficult
to obtain. As we are still working out the details of this
show, expect further details to be posted as things progress.
THE LONG-AWAITED OWNER’S SHOW | A Contemporary Two-Man Show
— Dates to be announced —
For those of you who have been wondering what Roundhouse Gallery owners
David Russell and Jason Montgomery do in their spare time, this show will
not be any help to you, because we do not have any spare time. But if you
want to see what we do for fun that we are willing to sacrifice sleep over,
this show is for you. This two-man show features contemporary works by
Dave and Jason that are distinctly different from the “Child Art” style
popularized by twentieth-century modern artists and art critics. Our
non-representational and abstract works are aesthetically engaging to the
mind without pretentiousness. If you ask us the deep meaning behind
each of the pieces, we can make up a long, emotionally-charged explanation
for you, but really, we just think that creating this stuff is great fun.
